Being an older brother is tough. You have to rough ‘em up just enough, but not enough to leave a bruise that mom will see, and keep them on their Volleyball game constantly, or else they’ll spoil your high school “legacy”. Then, if you’re lucky, you get to watch them fall in love with the girl of their dreams (which you have to razz them about), and one day be asked to capture the happiest day of their lives on camera.
Tough, but an honour, the entire way through. My younger brother Karsten wed his gorgeous wife Alison in the idyllic Wisconsin lake country, where Ali grew up. Though the town is small, Ali has never been anything but larger than life, and her personality shone through every detail of their wedding day.
The bride and her ‘maids readied themselves at Ali’s stunning lake front home, where they enjoyed a peaceful morning of reflection and anticipation. It was here that I caught one of my all-time favourite wedding photos: Ali, asked by the videographer to speak about why she loves Karsten, wiping a single tear off her face, her expression one of purest joy.
The indoor church wedding ceremony in Oconomowoc didn’t leave a dry eye in the house, and neither did the weather; we were blessed with a good ol’ fashioned prairie deluge, which may have shortened our wedding photo session in , but definitely didn’t damper any spirits.
Guests mingled at the historic Oconomowoc Lake Club for the wedding reception before settling down to an intimate, cosy dinner in the Commodore dining room. Ali’s artistic flair adorned every detail: from the pressed flower table numbers and floral table runners to the impeccable calligraphy. Afterward, the really party got started, kicked off by a one-of-a-kind father-daughter dance. It was around that time that I had to set down my own camera and resume my duties as older brother out on the dance floor. This Oconomowoc wedding was one I’ll never forget!

Situated directly on the water, the Oconomowoc Lake Club is an indoor wedding venue that has two ceremony and receptions spaces. The Grand Ballroom is an elegant space popular for wedding ceremonies and also doubles as a dance floor. The curved ceiling and soft glow of the chandeliers make for incredible Oconomowoc Lake Club wedding photos. The second reception venue at the club is downstairs in the Commodore room. It is capable of hosting both intimate weddings and large weddings and the space is warm and inviting. When it comes to wedding photos at Oconomowoc Lake Club you are spoiled for choice. The dock behind the venue is a popular spot for sunset wedding photos and nearby Lapham Peak also makes for epic portraits.
