Why the Bloedel Conservatory is One of Vancouver’s Best Wedding Venues – From a Photographer’s Perspective
If you’re planning a small wedding or elopement in Vancouver, the Bloedel Conservatory should definitely be on your list. As a wedding photographer and preferred vendor at the Conservatory, I’ve worked in the space many times — and it remains one of my favorite places to shoot. Here’s why it’s such a great spot to get married, and what couples can expect.
A Unique Indoor-Outdoor Feel
The Bloedel Conservatory is located at the top of Queen Elizabeth Park, which already gives it a bit of a “wow” factor. Inside, it’s filled with tropical plants, flowers and a variety of birds. The space feels like a greenhouse meets botanical garden — and it’s totally covered, so weather isn’t an issue. That’s a huge bonus in Vancouver, where rain is often a factor when planning weddings.
The tropical setting creates a really relaxed and natural vibe. It also means that no extra decorating is needed — the space looks beautiful as-is. And from a photographer’s point of view, the plant life and color everywhere make photos come alive without needing to do much extra.
Great Light, Even on Cloudy Days
Lighting plays a huge role in how your photos turn out, and the Bloedel Conservatory has fantastic light. The dome lets in a soft, even light, which is really flattering and makes for great portraits. Even on grey days (which we get a lot of), the light inside still feels warm and vibrant. I’ve shot here in every season, and it always looks good.
Best for Small Weddings and Elopements
The Conservatory is best suited for smaller weddings — usually up to around 30 guests. So if you’re planning a more intimate ceremony with just your closest people, this venue is a great fit. The layout of the space makes everything feel connected, and the ceremony usually happens right in the middle of the dome, surrounded by greenery. Recent subtle renovations to the walkways in 2025 have improved the space and improved sightlines for your guests.
Afterward, we usually head outside to the surrounding gardens and overlook for more photos. You get a great variety of backgrounds — from lush plant life to sweeping city views — all within a short walk.
Easy, Smooth Experience
Because I’ve worked here many times, I know how the space flows and where the best photo locationsare. The staff is also great and knows how to support both couples and vendors to keep everything running smoothly. It’s a relaxed, stress-free experience, which is exactly what you want on your wedding day.
In Short
A Bloedel Conservatory wedding is ideal for couples who want something a little different — something that feels special, easy, and beautiful without needing a ton of planning. It’s an indoor venue with an outdoor feel, perfect year-round, and always photogenic.
If you’re curious about what a wedding here looks like, I’d be happy to share photos from past events I’ve shot. It’s truly one of Vancouver’s hidden gems.
Cost and Booking Times for a Bloedel Conservatory Wedding
Planning your wedding at the Bloedel Conservatory is straightforward, with clear pricing and designated time slots to choose from.
Rental Fee: As of 2025, the cost for a two-hour exclusive rental is $1,025, plus GST. If you plan to have music during your ceremony, an additional Entandem fee applies.
Included in the Rental:
Two hours of exclusive use of the Conservatory outside of regular operating hours
Admission for up to 50 people (including vendors)
A facility liaison present during the event
A signing table and one white folding chair
Access to power and the facility’s sound system upon request
Available Booking Times:
The Conservatory has two time slots available each day to book – before it opens to the general public and after it closes. In my opinion, one is usually better than the other depending on the time of year you choose to get married. If the evening time slot falls AFTER sunset (usually winter months), I would highly suggest opting for the morning slot as the lighting will be better. Outside of that, the evening time slot is usually better and takes advantage of the soft sunset lighting.
