I first met Adrian and Rebecca on the day they got engaged high in the alpine meadow in Manning Park, BC. Fast forward and we reunited in a totally different setting, this time in Hawaii for their Maui destination wedding. The day prior to their wedding at Olowalu Plantation house I spent the day scouting locations for unique Maui wedding photos. I found it at the Honolua Bay Forest – an incredible destination filled with old growth forest and the perfect spot for some Hawaii wedding portraits. . The morning of the wedding was spent getting ready in separate hotels close to the venue. Soon enough it was time for the first look and we headed off to Honolua Bay to an spot I had found the day previously. Just off the main path, in a small jungle clearing Rebecca and Adrian saw each other for the first time and the excitement was off the charts. Absolutely loved witnessing such a cool moment between them. After their mountaintop proposal I knew they’d be up for taking some unique wedding photos in Maui and they proved me right when Rebecca jumped on a vine and went for a swing. The energy of her and Adrian was palpable. We ventured further into Honolua Bay forest for more wedding photos with the bridal party. The surroundings were otherworldly and it felt as if we had been dropped in the middle of Jurassic Park. Wedding photos on the beach rightfully get all the love in Hawaii but I love that we were able to get something a little more unique. After finishing up the portrait part of the day we drove back to their fantastic beachfront wedding venue. The Olowalu Plantation House is easily one of the most unique luxury wedding venues in Hawaii. The manor house is filled with character touches and is a great spot not only for last minute touchups but also moody wedding photos. As a wedding venue is also offers a decent amount of versatility in terms of where you want to have your ceremony. Rebecca and Adrian chose to get married underneath a palm tree with the ocean at their backs. The perfect choice especially given the time of year as we could see humpback whales jumping in the distance. While the Olowalu Plantation House can accomodate large weddings it is also perfectly suited for more intimate weddings like Adrian and Rebecca’s. After the ceremony we took family photos on the property while guests enjoyed signature cocktails under the massive banyan tree. The wedding reception in front of the plantation house followed and the setting set made for incredible candid photos. Because of the beachfront location of this wedding venue it can be susceptible to wind but we used it to our advantage to take some dramatic wedding photos underneath the banyan tree. Adrian and Rebecca’s maui destination wedding came to a close for me with their first dance just as the rain started to come down. It truly made for an amazing setting and the perfect end to an incredible day. After photographing this destination wedding in Hawaii I can see why the Olowalu Plantation House is one of the most popular wedding venues on Maui and can’t wait to go back!
