There are few wedding venues in British Columbia that successfully merge deep-rooted heritage with the relaxed sophistication of the West Coast quite like the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (RVYC).
Perched on the edge of Jericho Beach, with uninterrupted views of the downtown skyline and the North Shore mountains, the RVYC is a cornerstone of Vancouver’s maritime history. For Rachel and Shane, it was the only fitting backdrop for a celebration that prioritized timeless elegance and a distinct sense of place.
But a wedding on the edge of the Pacific shouldn’t just be adjacent to the water; it should be immersive.
The day began with preparations downtown, followed by a ceremony that utilized the stunning natural backdrop of the club’s Jericho location. The beauty of an RVYC wedding lies in its inherent atmosphere; the gentle sound of halyards clinking against masts and the salt air provide a sensory experience that few ballrooms can match.
The aesthetic was one of quiet luxury—crisp whites, nautical navy tones, and organic florals that complemented, rather than competed with, the ocean views. It was a perfect example of how a historic venue can feel incredibly current when approached with a refined eye.
While the manicured lawns of the Yacht Club offer beautiful photo opportunities, we wanted to anchor the couple’s portraits in the true spirit of the venue. Thanks to access to the private docks, we were able to step aboard a stunning sailboat for a portion of the creative session.
This “dockside editorial” approach offered the best of both worlds: the visual romance of a vintage maritime excursion without the logistical interruption of actually leaving the reception. The sailboat became a quiet sanctuary for the couple—a private space to catch their breath amidst the masts—while providing a uniquely cinematic backdrop. The resulting images are some of my favourites from the season; they feel timeless, grounded, and undeniably Pacific Northwest.
The evening transitioned back to the clubhouse for a reception that felt less like a formal banquet and more like a spirited dinner party by the water. The proximity to the marina meant that even indoors, the ocean remained a central character in the evening’s narrative.
A wedding at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club is a reminder that the best celebrations embrace their environment. For couples looking for a venue with history, prestige, and legitimate access to the ocean, the RVYC remains unmatched.
Are you planning a wedding that embraces the coastal elegance of Vancouver? Whether it’s at a historic club or a private estate, I would be honored to document your legacy.
If you’re drawn to the experience of celebrating on the water, you might also enjoy this wedding aboard Pacific Yacht Charters. While Royal Vancouver Yacht Club offers a classic waterfront setting, a yacht wedding creates a completely different perspective of the city — with changing light, moving scenery, and a more intimate atmosphere throughout the day.
