Shawn and Karlee picked two of the most epic locations near Vancouver for their engagement photos – Sea to Sky Gondola and Whytecliff Park. While there are plenty of incredible mountains around to take engagement pictures on, not many have a gondola that will take you to the top :) Located approximately 45 minutes from downtown Vancouver, the Sea to Sky Gondola opened a couple years ago and has quickly become one of the most popular spots to take both engagement and wedding photos. The sun sets earlier than most places due to the mountains so we decided to start at the gondola. After getting to the top we explored the area and walked the many trails; stopping whenever the light was right. While know for its incredible vistas, the sea to sky gondola also has plenty of forest area which provides some variety in backdrop. The two most popular locations at the gondola for engagement photos are most likely the platform overlooking the Chief and the suspension bridge. My favourite is definitely the platform as it allows for such a variety of engagement photos, most of the dramatic kind. Karlee wore a fantastic dress for her Squamish mountain engagement session and it was the perfect choice for the location. The suspension bridge might not be for the faint of heart but it provides a unique photography perspective with Howe sound and the Squamish mountain range in the background. While the cost of having your wedding at the Sea to sky gondola isn’t cheap, they don’t charge a shooting fee for engagement sessions. All thats required is a gondola ride pass for each person. Everything came together on this evening and the results were some of my favorite Sea to sky gondola engagement photos ever! We left Squamish as the sun started to set and drove to Whytecliff Park in West Vancouver to finish Shawn and Karlee’s engagement session. While similiar in terrain to nearby Lighthouse Park, Whytecliff park has a bit more drama to it. It does require a little bit more scrambling but the results are very much worth it.
