When searching for a Vancouver wedding venue that offers both ocean views and a sense of privacy, the Brockhouse Restaurant at Jericho Beach often tops the list. It is one of the few locations in the city that combines a heritage property with direct beach access, making it a favorite for photographers and couples alike. Kate and Tim’s recent celebration highlighted exactly why this venue works so well for summer weddings.
While many Vancouver weddings lean toward muted pastels or greenery, Kate and Tim chose a vibrant, energetic color palette. The floral arrangements and decor featured striking pops of orange, red, and blue. This choice was particularly effective against the natural green backdrop of the venue’s lawn and the ocean views beyond. For couples planning a summer event, this is a great example of how bold colors can stand out in an outdoor setting without clashing with the environment.
The Ceremony Under the Tree
One of the main draws of a Brockhouse wedding is the ceremony site. Located on the north lawn, the space is anchored by a massive, ancient oak tree that provides a natural canopy. Kate and Tim exchanged vows in the shade of this tree, which offered welcome relief from the summer sun for their guests. From a photography perspective, the tree acts as a perfect framing device, creating a focal point while filtering the light for soft, flattering skin tones. The backdrop of the North Shore mountains and the ocean creates a quintessential West Coast atmosphere that requires very little additional decoration.
Golden Hour on Jericho Beach
The timeline of the day was structured to take full advantage of the location. Because the Brockhouse is situated right on Jericho Beach, we didn’t need to travel for portraits. Just steps away from the reception, the beach provided an open horizon for sunset photos. We stepped out during golden hour, catching the sun dipping below the mountains. The light at this location is distinct because of the reflection off the water, providing a warm, cinematic quality that adds significant value to the final gallery.
The Tented Reception
Following the ceremony and cocktail hour on the lawn, the celebration moved to the permanent tent structure for the reception. The Brockhouse tent is a significant asset for Vancouver couples. Unlike temporary rentals, this structure is robust, featuring hard flooring and proper lighting capabilities. It allows for an outdoor dinner experience while protecting guests from the elements—a necessary insurance policy in the Pacific Northwest, even in summer.
Kate and Tim’s reception felt open and airy, with the sides of the tent open to allow the sea breeze to flow through. As the evening progressed, the space transitioned seamlessly from a dinner setting to a dance floor. The proximity to the heritage house also means guests have access to comfortable indoor amenities while enjoying the al fresco vibe of the tent.
Why the Brockhouse Works for Photography
From a logistical standpoint, the Brockhouse is an efficient venue. Having the getting-ready suite (inside the heritage house), the ceremony lawn, the beach, and the reception tent all within a 100-meter radius maximizes the time the couple gets to spend with their guests. There is no travel time lost in traffic, which translates to a more relaxed experience and more candid photo opportunities.
Kate and Tim’s wedding was a perfect example of how to utilize this space. By trusting the natural beauty of the venue and adding their own distinct colorful style, they created a celebration that was visually sharp and incredibly fun to document.
