Easily one of the most fun days I’ve ever had photographing, Jenn and Dhawal’s wedding at her family’s orchard in Kelowna was a compilation of everything a wedding celebration should be.
In her own words…
Going into the day, we knew we wanted to include elements from both our traditions – Western and Indian weddings – but it was also important to us to include elements that were “us” rather than just for the sake of tradition. That’s how we ended up with a baraat, a processional, a boler bar and tacos :) It turned out to such a beautiful and eclectic day that felt very “us” from start to finish.
The weather all week leading up to the wedding was touch and go, but it turned out to be a beautiful day, and the light and the colors of the orchard were spectacular. Indian weddings are so colorful and it felt like nature got the memo and really turned out to put on a show that afternoon – – the colors from the baraat, where the ceremony took place, to the sunset sky over the orchard during cocktail hour to the stars – that is something that we’ll never forget and we can’t get over how well your photos captured it.
Our favorite part of the day was the ceremony. We had pulled elements from both our traditions with the mandap, the processional, a hindu prayer and seven steps, a western reading and then our “madlib” vows – and the result felt so special and genuine to us and who we are.
One of our favorite moments was sneaking away at night to take that spectacular star wedding photo. Our “theme” was constellations and stars for several reasons (it has a lot of significance in Hinduism), but one of which (as you heard in our mad lib vows!) is that we remind each other often that there are 100 billion stars in the milky way galaxy when we need to remember what is really important – the day goes by so fast and we both really loved taking a quiet moment to be with each other (and you!), take a breath, look at the stars and remember what the days was about.
Jenn and Dhawal’s epic multi-cultural wedding was recently featured over on
Junebug Weddings.

While vineyard wedding venues in the Okanagan are definitely the most popular, orchards make for stunning backdrops as well. Most orchard wedding venues in Kelowna are located on private property so it often takes knowing someone in order to make it happen. Located just outside of the city, this expansive orchard was owned by the bride’s family and was the perfect location for an outdoor tented wedding. The bride got ready inside her family home before heading into the rows of apple trees for the first look. We took wedding photos throughout the orchard following the first look. The outdoor wedding ceremony took place on the lawn beside the house and the tented reception on the back lawn. Keeping with the constellation theme, the dance floor was also outside under the night sky. Can’t wait to photograph another orchard wedding in Kelowna!
