British Columbia is arguably the best place in the world to elope. Where else can you find rugged coastlines, ancient rainforests, desert vineyards, and snow-capped peaks all within a single province?

For the couple that values experience over tradition, an elopement allows you to strip away the noise of a big wedding and focus on what matters: your connection. Whether you are envisioning a helicopter landing on a remote glacier or a quiet ceremony on a drift-wood covered beach, BC has a backdrop that matches your vision.

Below is a curated list of the 20 Best Elopement Locations in BC, organized by region to help you plan your perfect adventure.

Eloping in Vancouver & The Lower Mainland

Are you looking for a list of the best destinations in BC to elope? I have compiled a list of the top destinations in the province along with example images and useful information for planning your elopement.

Perfect for couples who want nature without straying too far from the city.

Mt Seymour
Just a 45-minute drive from downtown, Mt. Seymour offers high-alpine views with minimal effort. The trail to Mystery Lake is a short hike that rewards you with a glassy, reflective lake surrounded by peaks.

Accessibility: Moderate hike (45 mins)

The Vibe: Alpine romance, accessible adventure.

Best Time: July to October (snow-free) or Winter for snowshoe elopements.

Stanley Park

One of the most famous parks in the world. While the Seawall gets crowded, there are hidden pockets of ancient forest and quiet beaches (like Third Beach) perfect for an intimate exchange of vows.

Accessibility: Very Easy (Drive-up).

The Vibe: Iconic Pacific Northwest forest and ocean.

Best Time: Year-round (Weekdays are best to avoid crowds).

Dr. Sun Yat Sen Chinese Gardens

An oasis of calm in the middle of Chinatown. The architecture, jade-green water, and manicured plants offer a distinct, peaceful aesthetic that is totally unique in the city.

Accessibility: Very Easy.

The Vibe: Architectural, serene, cultural.

Best Time: Spring (for blossoms) or Autumn.

Lynn Canyon

The younger sibling of nearby Capilano Suspension Bridge, Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge is arguably just as stunning! I prefer Lynn Canyon as an elopement location due to the variety of backdrops. To avoid the crowds, I highly recommend planning your elopement for a weekday or earlier in the day.

Heli Elopement

If you want privacy and drama, a heli-elopement is unmatched. Flying out of Pitt Meadows, you can land on a remote mountain peak for your vows and be back in the city for dinner.

Accessibility: Easy (The helicopter does the work!).

The Vibe: Luxury, epic, “on top of the world.”

Best Time: Year-round.

Eloping in Whistler & The Sea-to-Sky

The corridor from Squamish to Pemberton is the adventure capital of Canada.

Sea-to-Sky Gondola

Want mountain views without the hike? The gondola whisks you up 885 meters to a summit lodge with sweeping views of Howe Sound and the coastal mountains.

The Vibe: Panoramic, grand, tourist-friendly.

Best Time: Year-round.

Accessibility: Very Easy (Gondola ride).

Squamish Valley (Paradise Valley)

Squamish isn’t just about the Chief. The Squamish Valley (specifically Paradise Valley Road) is lined with moss-covered forests that look like a fairytale. It offers soft, filtered light that is incredible for photos.

  • The Vibe: Enchanted forest, whimsical, quiet.
  • Best Time: Spring to Autumn.
  • Accessibility: Easy (Drive-up spots available).

Whistler (Nita Lake or Stone Circle)

Whistler offers world-class amenities alongside rugged nature. Nita Lake Lodge provides a luxury base, while the Stone Circle near Alta Lake offers a more rustic, bohemian ceremony spot.

  • The Vibe: Resort luxury meets mountain town charm.
  • Best Time: Summer (for lakes) or Winter (for skiing couples).
  • Accessibility: Very Easy.

Joffre Lakes (Pemberton)

Famous for its Gatorade-blue water. The Middle Lake is the most iconic, but the Lower Lake is accessible without a hike. Note: This location is extremely popular; sunrise ceremonies are highly recommended.

  • Best Time: June to September.
  • Accessibility: Moderate to Hard hike (depending on which lake).

Eloping on Vancouver Island & The Gulf Islands

For the wild at heart. Rugged coastlines, surf breaks, and ancient trees.

Ucluelet (West Coast)

While Tofino gets the fame, Ucluelet has the drama. The Wild Pacific Trail features jagged black rocks and crashing waves that make you feel like you are at the edge of the world.

Stay: Black Rock Oceanfront Resort.

Sooke (East Sooke Park)

Just 45 minutes from Victoria, Sooke feels untamed. Aylard Farm offers white sandy beaches (rare for the PNW) and fields of golden grass.

Accessibility: Easy to Moderate walking.

The Vibe: West Coast rustic, relaxed.

Hatley Castle

If you want to feel like royalty, this is the place. A genuine Edwardian castle with Italian and Japanese gardens. It is elegant, historic, and cinematic (it’s a filming location for X-Men!).

Accessibility: Very Easy.

The Vibe: Regal, historic, garden elegance.

Best Time: Spring (gardens in bloom).

The Gulf Islands (Galiano or Pender)

A short ferry ride takes you to a slower pace of life. Gowland Point on Pender Island offers unique rock formations, while Bodega Ridge on Galiano offers sweeping cliffside views.

A bucket-list destination. This remote archipelago is rich in Indigenous culture and untouched wilderness. It is for the true adventurer who wants to disconnect completely.

Accessibility: Remote (Requires flight or long ferry).

The Vibe: Spiritual, wild, remote.

Best Time: Summer.

Eloping in the BC Interior & Rockies

Lakes, vineyards, and the majestic Rocky Mountains.

Manning Park

A 2.5-hour drive from Vancouver, this park bridges the gap between coast and canyon. Lightning Lake is perfect for a canoe elopement, while the Alpine Meadows (accessible by car in summer) offer wildflowers and 360-degree views.

Accessibility: Easy (Drive up to the sub-alpine).

The Vibe: Classic Canadiana, camping vibes.

A hidden gem with a distinctive look. The lake is filled with old tree stumps that create an eerie, otherworldly atmosphere against the snowy peaks. Note: Requires a vehicle with high clearance.

Shuswap Lake

The houseboat capital of Canada. Renting a houseboat allows you to change your “venue” every day, finding a new secluded beach for your ceremony.

Accessibility: Easy.

The Vibe: Summer fun, relaxed, water-based.

Best Time: July and August.

How to Legally Elope in British Columbia

Planning the logistics is easier than you think. Here is the 3-step process to making it official.

1. Get Your Marriage License ($100) You can pick this up at most London Drugs or Insurance Centers. It is valid for three months. Only one partner needs to be present to buy it, but you need ID for both.

2. Choose an Officiant or Commissioner

  • Marriage Commissioners: Appointed by the government. They perform non-religious, standard civil ceremonies. They are cost-effective ($84 + travel) but offer limited customization.
  • Wedding Officiants: Allow for fully personalized ceremonies (spiritual, religious, or unique). They are a great choice if you want a custom ceremony script.

3. The Witnesses You need two witnesses over the age of 19. If you are eloping just the two of you, I am happy to act as one witness, and we can often ask a friendly hiker or passerby to be the second!

Best Time of Year to Elope in BC

  • Summer (July-August): Guaranteed warmth and access to high-alpine hiking trails. The busiest season.
  • Fall (September-October): The “Goldilocks” season. Cooler temps, fewer crowds, and stunning fall colors (especially in Manning Park).
  • Winter (December-March): For the snowy, cozy vibe. Whistler and Emerald Lake are magic in the winter.
  • Spring (April-June): Can be rainy, but the waterfalls are full and the valleys are lush green.

Leave No Trace

BC’s beauty is wild, and we want to keep it that way. When eloping in these outdoor locations, please follow Leave No Trace principles:

  • Pack out all trash (including champagne corks!).
  • Stay on designated trails to protect delicate wildflowers and moss.
  • Avoid using confetti (even biodegradable takes years to break down in the mountains).
