I can’t think of many engagement photo locations in the world more epic than Tofino. Located seemingly at the edge of the world, it’s a wild and stunningly beautiful place. Jill and Jon had plans for a surf trip to the little town on Vancouver Island and last minute asked if I’d be willing to make the trip over to shoot some beach engagement photos for them. I arrived the day before the shoot and headed out to some of the many nearby beaches to scout. While any of of them would have provided a spectacular backdrop for Jon and Jill’s Tofino engagement session I settled on the popular Chesterman Beach. The mixture of forest, rocky outcroppings and endless surf was exactly what I was looking for. The beaches of Tofino have seen many engagement photos and so I wanted to try and get Jon and Jill something a little unique. The tiny Frank Island provided just that. Accessible only at low tide, the island has an otherworldly feel to it with jagged black rocks surrounded by pounding waves. The many tidal pools provided great reflections as we scrambled over the terrain chasing the sun. For a place famous for its inclement weather I always seem to get the best weather at every Tofino engagement or wedding I’ve shot. Just take a look at the sunset we got for Sean and Lindsay’s beach wedding in the middle of storm season! As people started lighting campfires on the beach we made our way back to our cars. I left the island already looking forward to the next Tofino engagement session.
