Over ten years ago I found myself traveling in a remote part of northern Cambodia with my sister. We were staying at a hostel and got to talking with the only other person there only to find out they were also from Vancouver. Even crazier, her boyfriend (at the time) was a friend of mine from school. All three of us traveled together throughout South East Asia for a few weeks and kept in touch for a while – she even came to my sister’s wedding a year later. Fast forward to 2017 when an email from Lindsay showed up in my inbox. She was now engaged and in true adventurous fashion was planning her destination beach wedding in Ucluelet BC. While this little town (and it’s more famous sibling Tofino up the road) is absolutely stunning, it does receive a crazy amount of rainfall. Undeterred, Lindsay went one step further and scheduled her outdoor wedding right in the middle of storm season. What we ended up getting on the day of was the exact opposite. I woke up to the sun shooting through the morning mist and knew we were in for an incredible day. Sean and his groomsmen had installed a driftwood arch the day prior and its there that he waited for Lindsay to make way down the sand. After an intimate and emotional ceremony on Little Beach outside of Ucluelet we headed off for some Vancouver island wedding photos. While the beaches get all the glory (and for good reason), both Tofino and Ucluelet have some amazing moss covered forest that make for unique wedding portraits. The sun lingered in the sky as we drove to our final location near the Black Rock Oceanfront Resort. Perhaps the best place on Vancouver Island to watch the sunset from, Big Beach is covered with these jagged rocks that looks straight from another planet. Despite being in literally one of the most beautiful places in the world, Sean and Lindsay only had eyes for each other. It was an incredible thing to witness and I’m so grateful that they brought me along to photograph their wedding on the beach in Ucluelet.
